Patrick Hector Dessein CV

Patrick Dessein MD, FCP (SA), PhD, FRCP (UK) qualified magna cum laude from the Catholic University Leuven in Belgium.  He received his postgraduate training in internal medicine and rheumatology at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.  He is a senior honorary lecturer at the Cardiovascular Pathophysiology and Genomics Research Unit, School of Physiology, an honorary Specialist in Rheumatology at the Department of Internal Medicine, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and a full time member of the Human Research Ethics Committee (Medical), Faculty of Health Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand.  He is an Editorial Board member of The Journal of Rheumatology.  In 2010, based on international peer review, he was rated a B (internationally recognized) scientist by the South African National Research Foundation.  His major research interest focuses on cardiovascular risk and disease in persons with rheumatoid arthritis from developed and developing populations.
